Haileybury Boys - XV vs  St John's School, Leatherhead
On: Saturday, 18 Nov 2017
Venue: at Home

This was a superb game between two excellent teams. St. Johns deserve huge credit for coming to Haileybury ahead of their Champions Cup semi-final against Dulwich and putting up an awesome fight against a strong home side. As they have done throughout the season Haileybury started well and got the games first points through Sam Cappaert. St Johns struck back scoring a quality try to go 7-3 up. Man of the Match Kyle Douglas scored a try from the back of the scrum close to the posts to take Haileybury back in front, 10-7 to the home side. St Johns played some great stuff to get a penalty and level things up. That man Cappaert scored a great try wide out, and added the extras, after some superb Haileybury handling and a strong run from outstanding full back Spencer Owen. Haileybury were beginning to dominate and looked as though they would score again before half time but St Johns produced a superb break out from their own 5m line to eventually score to make it 17-15 at half time.

The second half was a cagey affair with both teams having their chances to score but failing to take them. Eventually Haileybury's pack took control and with Moody, Pifiletti and Douglas to the fore centre Harry Collins got his first try of the season following a clever chip from Cappaert. The conversion was routine so the home team finally had some breathing space. St Johns came back hard and were pressing but the home team held them out before securing the game and a bonus point for the Daily Mail Championship with substitute Sam Hurding crossing for his fourth try in four games. A great result for Haileybury, 31-15.
