Haileybury v Stamford was a clash of styles. Stamford were physical up front with a great driving maul and scrum and Haileybury were playing an expansive style in tough conditions. It made for a superb game. Stamford went 7-0 up with a driving maul try before Haileybury hit back with a stunning effort from a counter attack after great work from enterprising full back Nick Davis. 7-7 HT
Haileybury scored another superb try early in the 2nd half through that man Crane after the ball was moved side to side! It looked like Haileybury were going to get on top but Stamford wrestled back control scoring 3 good tries to lead 24-12. Fraser Rawlins scored an incredible try from 60m on a kick return. It was a really amazing individual effort. A tense finish but Haileybury couldn’t quite get over the line in a superb game.
This Haileybury side are box office to watch! With a few tweaks and a bit of luck they will achieve some great results this year. This was a great advert for schoolboy rugby!
