Match Report
Haileybury Boys-U18A vs  Bedford School
On: Saturday, 02 Dec 2023
Venue: at Home

What a superb game of schoolboy rugby! Absolutely superb. The referee was exceptional and both teams put in an incredible level of effort and quality. It was a hammer and tongs game with no quarter asked or given!

Toby Grimberg finished off an excellent team try to give the hosts a 5-nil lead. Bedford hit back before the hosts took control with tries from the marauding Lucas Osman and the incisive man of the match Fraser Rawlins. Newton added one conversion to give the hosts a 17-7 lead at half time. One set of defence from Haileybury was epic with the excellent Zac Crane using his soccer skills to clear his lines.

Bedford’s star player scored an excellent long range effort to give Bedford hope. Haileybury gained territory and had Bedford under siege but couldn’t add the vital score but Newton slotted a crucial penalty my to stretch the lead to 20-12. Bedford came back and built pressure. Haileybury again showed great resolve with Filippetto prominent before that man Rawlins ran the length of the field to seal an excellent victory. Newton added the extras before scoring an incredible try of his own with an audacious sidestep to score. Bedford were superb but Haileybury produced a fine performance to win 34-12. This team deserve huge credit for the way they have approached each game this season. What a superb group and they’ll be excited for a local derby next week against an outstanding St Albans team. They have 3 England U18 internationals and have had a superb season so it should be a cracker next week! Get down to Terrace if you want to see some brilliant schoolboy rugby.

Great credit to Turf Andy and his team for producing such a superb set of pitches.
